Its pretty great actually, in case you cant tell from the sweet cover art.
I don't know who did this picture, but its pretty fucking sweet.
But i guess i should probably talk about the actual game for a minute before gushing about its awesomeness.
So starting out, this is Terra Branford(Or Tina if you happen to live in japan)
She is half human, half esper (An esper is sort of like a creature from another dimension.Kind of like a monster, for lack of a better word.)
She was raised from birth by the corrupt emperor, Gestahl and was forged into a sort of killing machine. Not to mention, she's special, seeing as she is one of very few humans who can use magic.
I could go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil anything.
She is easily one of my favorite female characters in gaming outright, being powerful, but not really knowing it.On top of that, in the game she has green hair and the power to turn into a naked, purple lady.So that's pretty cool.
Not to mention, she was also one of the only female characters in dissida, and easily one of the best (But then, I'm kind of playing favorites)
Then theres Locke Cole (Or lock if you live in japan...Not a huge difference, but whatever)
Admittedly, i don't really know much about him, other than the fact that his fiancée, Rachel...Well actually, here is a direct quote from the wiki page (May have spoilers, so be careful)
'The player is introduced to Rachel as Locke's girlfriend from Kohlingen. One day, Locke took Rachel to Mt. Kolts, supposedly looking for what would become her engagement ring. Upon crossing a rickety bridge, it began to collapse with Locke on it, before Rachel pushed him out of the way just in time. In doing so Rachel took the fall for him. Locke saved her and brought her back to Kohlingen, but due to the fall, she had lost her memory. Her father blamed it on Locke, and he kicked him out of their house.'
And after that, he made a promise to himself to protect any woman who needs him.So that's pretty cool.
Then theres Edgar Roni Figaro. For some reason, I kept him in my party through pretty much the whole game.He pretty much rocks my ass off, he's so cool. He's the king of South Figaro, i believe.I'll just use another wiki quote, because I'm lazy and don't know much about any character other than Terra.
'Edgar Roni Figaro is a playable character in Final Fantasy VI. He is the king of Figaro Castle and the older twin brother of Sabin Rene Figaro. He is a master engineer, which leads him to create odd and unusual weapons, mostly as a hobby. Edgar often redecorates his room and is flirtatious with women, a trait he shares with many other characters in the series.'
So yeah...
Then there is Sabin Rene Figaro (Macías "Mash" Rene Figaro in Japan-land)
He's a monk, and i kept him in my party for a really long time, despite the fact that i couldn't really do any of his 'blitz's' right.
Bluh, spoilers again!
'Sabin was born a prince to the throne of Figaro and shared inheritance for the throne with his twin brother, Edgar. As a child, Sabin was considered the smaller and weaker of the two brothers. When Sabin was only seventeen, the Gestahlian Empire poisoned his father. Their father died asking that both of his sons rule the kingdom together'.
(again, from the wiki)
Then there is Cyan Garamonde (Cayenne Garamonde in japan.I really like seeing the differences between American and Japanese versions of games like this). He's sort of like a samurai sort of dude.
I actually did keep him in my party for most of the game (Sabin for half, then Cyan for half)
'When players are first introduced to Cyan, the Empire is attacking his homeland of Doma. Cyan attends a strategy meeting, where he suggests killing off the commander, which he does so easily. Kefka Palazzo, who is in charge of the attack while General Leo Cristophe is away, has other plans: he dumps poison into the river that leads through Doma, killing almost everyone inside, including the King of Doma, and Cyan's wife and son, Elaine and Owain.
The only survivors were Cyan himself and a single Doman scout. Gripped by sorrow which turns into rage, Cyan rushes into the Imperial Camp to get revenge, with the help of Sabin Rene Figaro and Shadow. Grateful for their help Cyan agrees to accompany them to Narshe. The threesome escape the base in Magitek Armor, which Cyan is reluctant to use.'
Sorry, again, straight from the wiki page.
Then theres Gau.There isn't much to say about him really, I was going to just copy and paste something from the wiki page again, but almost everything on there is chock full of spoilers, and i never really used Gau myself. In fact, i think he was one of my lowest level characters...So, yeah, moving on!
Next is Celes Chere. She too, is one of my favorite female characters in this game (Mostly because there are like, three).
A genetically enhanced Magitek Knight initially serving as a general of the Gestahlian Empire, she becomes disillusioned with the empire and turns her back on them to join the Returners.
Not only is she powerful, and confident, she also has a pretty awesome sword, and the fact that she can absorb magic spells means she's really useful against kefka during the first fight (Maybe the last one too, but honestly i have yet to beat it...)
Then theres Setzer Gabbiani, the gambling ladies man.
Again, i barley ever used Setzer, so i don't really know much about him other than the fact that he owns a sweet airship.
So far, Setzer is the only character from before FF VII to appear in a kingdom hearts game too, so that's pretty cool actually.
Although he was a raging douche in KH 2, so i never really liked him.
Then theres Shadow, the aloof assassin (Hee hee, aloof)
Shadow actually has a really cool back story, but i don't want to ruin any of that.
I never really used Shadow much (Surprise, surprise)but even i thought he was pretty cool.Though, the fact that he kind of just dropped in and out of the story was sort of the main reason i never used him in my party.
Then there's Realm Arrowny.
She's whats called a 'pictomancer', someone who can...I guess sort of make their pictures come to life.
Well that's exactly it, actually.
It sounded really cool when i first read about her and i was really excited to play as her...
Then i actually did, and it was like...She's not bad.It was just not what i was expecting.
She's also only ten, making her the youngest playable character in the game, which is kinda funny seeing as her grandpa, strago, is the oldest playable character in the game.
Which brings me to the next character!
Strago Magus (Stragos Magus in that crazy Japan town)
There isn't really much to say about Strago, either.
HEY, HERE'S A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE WIKI PAGE!
Strago grew up in Thamasa with his friend Gungho. Together, they would hunt a beast known as Hidon, but would always fail. He was overprotective of Relm, whom some townspeople believe to be his adopted granddaughter; it is never confirmed either way. When Terra Branford, Locke Cole, and Shadow visit Thamasa and ask Strago about the Espers, Strago denies their existence, but invites them to stay at the inn for a low price of 1 gil. During the night Relm is caught in a burning building and Strago tries using Ice spells to put the fire out, but to no avail. The Mayor of Thamasa reveals that Magic is forbidden. Strago asks Terra and Locke to help him and the three go inside the burning building and rescue Relm, but are cornered by flames and Shadow and Interceptor save them.
Next is Mog.Mog is a talking moogle. That's pretty much as badass as you can possibly hope to get.
Then are the two unlockable characters, Umaro and Gogo.
Being unlockable characters, they really dont even have backstories.Except i think Umaro is a yeti.So theres that.
Wow, i cant believe i almost forgot about Kefka.
I think he is easily one of final fantasy's greatest greatest villains, thus far at least.
Because instead of wanting to destroy the world for some kind of reason that doesnt even make sense (i'm looking at you, cloud of darkness)
He is pretty much just straight up insane. Also, he totally succeeds!(Oops, spoilers again...)
So far as i can remember, he is the only antaganist who actually almost succeeds with their plans. He actually (Spoilers) becomes a god and destroys some towns and stuff...But yeah, now i'm just kind of ranting!
Wow, this post is crazy long!
Here's a festive grumpy cat, to say thank you for reading all the way to the end, and to say happy late new year!(Even though its nearly February.)
HA!
Oh, also!I just play this game on an emulator, seeing as how i cant seem to find an actual copy, so i might as well put a link to that website here. Not having to download anything to play an old game is pretty awesome (also, I'm not trying to advertise for this website, i sort of just want other people to be able to play this game too.)
